Chamber Blood & Organ Donor Drive - October 30
Oct 30, 2010 - Coppell, Texas
The Coppell Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the Chamber office on Saturday, October 30, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Representatives from Taylor's Gift will also be available to answer any questions about organ donation and help you become an organ donor.
Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor, a person like you who makes the choice to donate. There is no substitute for your donation.
Donors must be age 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. All blood types are needed.
To schedule your appointment to donate, call the Chamber office at 972-393-2829. For more information on donating blood, visit www.redcrossblood.org.
Many in Coppell know of Taylor Storch’s story. Given only 13 years of life, she had a tragic skiing accident while vacationing with her family in Colorado this past March. After her parents were told that she would not survive, they followed Taylor’s life of giving to others and made the “Gift of Life” choice for her. Taylor’s gift of organ donation blessed five lives through transplantation of her heart, liver, both kidneys, pancreas, and corneas.
Prior to the formation of Taylor’s Gift Foundation in April 2010, Texas was ranked as the second lowest state in organ donor registration. TaylorsGift.org has already inspired thousands of people to become organ donors. Recently, Good Morning America featured a story on the Storch’s meeting the heart recipient that left all three hosts teary and speechless.
Many people that believe their names are in the organ donor database are surprised to find they are not. Take 90 seconds to make sure your name is in the Texas database.
Become a hero by registering as an organ donor at www.TaylorsGift.org.
The Donation Process:
Our staff and volunteers will sign you in and go over basic eligibility and donation information.
You will read information about donating blood, and will be asked to show a donor card, driver's license, or other form(s) of ID.
You will answer some questions during a private and confidential interview about your health history and places you have traveled.
We will check your temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hemoglobin level present in a sample of blood.
The actual donation takes about 8-10 minutes, during which you will be seated comfortably. The process is safe and sterile. Red Cross staff and volunteers will be available if you have any questions.
After donating, you should have a snack and something to drink in the refreshments area. You can leave the site after 10-15 minutes and continue with your normal daily activities.
Enjoy the feeling of accomplishment knowing that you have helped save lives.
