COPPELL CITY COUNCIL APPROVES REVISED SIGN ORDINANCE

The Coppell Chamber of Commerce continues to be the business advocate in Coppell and is excited to see the Coppell City Council approve many of the changes recommended by the Sign Ordinance Task Force.
In April 2011, the Coppell Chamber of Commerce sent a letter to the Coppell City Council asking the city to look at the current sign ordinance and consider revising it. The Chamber had just finished its Annual Biz Walk which surveys businesses in Coppell and asks, among other things, “What could be improved about your experience opening/operating in Coppell?” For the overwhelming majority of businesses, the answer was “improve the sign ordinance.”
Responding to this letter, the City Council asked for a Sign Ordinance Task Force to be made – I was on this task force. For the next several months we went over many different details of the sign ordinance and finally came to a consensus on what should be brought to Planning and Zoning and ultimately City Council.
This was a process that had a good deal of ‘give and take’ and the end result is positive for business. Businesses will now be able to place a color logo where white block letters once stood for many of them. These businesses will now be able to utilize their nationally recognized logos if they are a franchise, they will be able to utilize their recognized logo if they are a small business and the people who want to shop local will be able to find their storefronts with ease.
I am excited for this change to be made. I am happy City Council voted unanimously to approve the recommendations coming from Planning & Zoning. I am proud the Coppell Chamber of Commerce was there every step of the way to ensure business concerns were being heard. This is why it is important to participate and let your voices be heard. The Coppell Chamber of Commerce exists to serve those business needs.
This is the last blog I will write for the Coppell Chamber of Commerce. I can tell you that I am sad to leave a community like Coppell, but I am excited about the things on the horizon for both Coppell and myself. I am truly happy to be leaving on a high note with the passage of this revised ordinance. I have enjoyed every opportunity here in Coppell, I have enjoyed getting to work closely with community leaders and businesses and most of all, I have enjoyed the friendships I have made while here. Thank you for everything Coppell!
